Food for Thought

WHY COOK?

It's a life skill. It's creative and it is a great way to bring people together
you will also know what is in your food - no surprises
The best times in your life are almost always remembered because of a meal you had with friends
The hard bit for me is balancing the right amount of good food with the right amount of exercise!
But hey, we all have to have challenges!
My Top Tips:
Buy fruit and vegetables seasonally: it is cheaper and easier to keep to a budget
Support local suppliers and smaller businesses: they usually know where and how their food is produced
Remember to take your own baskets/bags when shopping to avoid collecting more plastic
Mindful shopping helps your health, your budget and your local community and ultimately our planet
Decide what, source it, prepare, and most definitely enjoy the eating.
Let your food adventures begin and let me know what food makes you smile and we can share/create together, I will add your creations here (once I have tested them!)

Tomato Bruschetta

Why eat Tomatoes & bread?

Tomatoes are a good source of vitamins and minerals.

Vitamins C and E are essential

antioxidants. Vitamin K is important for blood clotting and promotes bone health. Folate is essential for pregnant women and tissue development.  Potassium helps with blood pressure control and prevention of heart disease

Tomatoes can trigger allergies in people who suffer from grass pollen or eczema

Why eat Bread?

Bread is high in calories and carbs but low in protein, fat, fibre and many vitamins and minerals. However, the specific nutrient profile depends on the type of bread and it is widely confirmed that sourdough bread is one of the best

Cheese Soufflé

Why eat cheese and Eggs?

Cheese is a great source of calcium, fat and protein, and has high amounts of vit. A, B12, zinc, phosphorus, and riboflavin (B2).

Calcium circulates blood, moves muscles, and releases hormones and helps carry messages from your brain to other parts of your body.

To absorb calcium the body needs vit. D, which is mainly in sunshine but also in egg yolks so a natural fit in this recipe.

Vit. A helps maintain eyesight and B12, keeps your nerves healthy and supports the production of DNA and red blood cells, as well as maintaining normal brain function. Zinc accelerates healing and boosts the immune system, Phosphorus helps; bone and muscle health, filters waste from the kidneys and maintain a regular heartbeat and gives energy. Riboflavin(B2) can improve the effects of a migraine.

Cheese made from the milk of 100 percent grass-fed animals is the highest in nutrients and also contains omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin K-2.

Why not eat cheese, you  may have a  dairy allergy and can be high in saturated fat and can cause migraines.  Goats and Sheep milk cheeses cause fewer allergic reactions

Eggs are pretty much nature's perfect food.they contain, A, E, B2, B5, B12, omega 3, selenium, folate, iron, iodine and phosphorus - look up how good.

Pancakes

Why eat pancakes with citrus fruit?

Both Oranges and Lemons are an excellent source of Vit. C which helps to maintain the immune system and oranges also contain thiamin and folate as well as pectin.  One medium orange supplies more than the daily requirement of Vit. C for an adult.   Vit. C helps to make collagen, essential for healthy skin and helps maintain the body's defences against bacterial infections and can prevent or inhibit certain cancers.  High levels of pectin found in the membrane of oranges and lemons may also lower cholesterol levels.  Fresh orange is a natural form of sweetness.  And lemon juice has long been associated with helping to sooth a sore throat with hot water and honey and it contains an oil that may help to relieve rheumatism by stimulating the liver to expel toxins from teh

body.

They are both definitely part of your 5 or 7 a day.

Too much fruit juice can contribute towards tooth decay, but if taken with food / water, much less so.   Citrus fruit have been linked to migraines so beware.
